Missed Staff Anniversaries - August 2024

Last year we celebrated the anniversaries of our staff. But we've also had some new staff members join that didn't get to participate, so we'd like to take some time to celebrate them! Learn a little bit about Alana, Megan, and Sharlene, who have become important members of our team.

Alana

Job Title: Adult Programs Coordinator

Favorite part of your job: Crafting for work, discovering all kinds of new books to add to my TBR list, and helping patrons.

Currently reading: How Lucky by Will Leitch, Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket, The Stranger by Albert Camus

Currently watching: The Good Place on Netflix (rewatch)

Currently listening to: Walk by NCT 127 (album), Decide by Djo (album), The Adventure Zone (podcast)

When I'm not at work, you can usually find me hanging out with my cat and dog at home, or my horse at the barn. My hobbies include crocheting, writing, finding new music, and collecting cool rocks. Reading is another of my favorite pastimes, and I like to dabble in several genres, but horror, magical realism, and speculative fiction tend to be my favorites.

Megan

Job Title: Children's Librarian

Favorite Part of My Job: I enjoy building connections. My job allows me to foster connections with patrons and help them connect with resources and materials that fit their entertainment and educational needs. Connections like these are invaluable!

Currently Reading: Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki (Thanks to Susan, my colleague, for the recommendation!)

Currently Watching: Fortitude season 2 (Thanks to Jamie, my colleague, for the recommendation!)

Currently Listening To: Lately, I've been listening to the band hey, nothing. The audiobook I'm currently listening to is By the Time You Read This: The Space Between Cheslie's Smile and Mental Illness -- Her Story in Her Own Words by Cheslie Kryst and April Simpkins

I love my family, dog, ice cream, and houseplants. Some of my hobbies include camping, traveling, crafting, reading, and kayaking. My favorite travel destination so far was Barcelona, Spain; I dream of someday visiting Scotland. I've been skydiving twice and would definitely go again! My previous work experience includes teaching at the high school level for ten years and working as a park ranger for the National Park Service.

Sharlene

Job Title: Teen Librarian

Favorite Part of Job: Ordering Young Adult books

Currently reading: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

I am currently working on my Master in Library and Information Science (MLIS). After studying and work, I like to relax at home with my cat, Hetty. She is silly and playful. Her favorite activity is the automatic laser pointer because she gets treats after ‘defeating’ the errant red dot. I have a few hobbies that I enjoy in my free time. The main one is crocheting. I love to make blankets because it makes the space feel cozy and personal.
