Port Clinton Church Records - Susan Dress

We have a number of books in our genealogy collection based on church records or celebrating church anniversaries. Most of the books are about Port Clinton churches, but we have several from Oak Harbor, Lakeside-Marblehead, one from Genoa and one from Fremont. From St John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont, we have an alphabetical list of marriages performed between 1844 and 1890. St Johns of Genoa has compiled a list of all communion classes from 1871 through 1968, and the names of the officiating pastors for each communion class. We have a set of three volumes from St Paul Lutheran Church in Danbury township, diligently transcribed by Edith J Minderman from the original church records for: baptisms; confirmation communion and marriages; and burials and family registers. Each volume covers records from 1845 through 1952. The books are indexed, which should help in finding specific individuals. From Marblehead we have an historical booklet for First United Church of Christ that includes biographies of the church founders, history of the church building and a listing of pastors who served the church. Holy Assumption Church in Marblehead prepared a 75th anniversary booklet in 1999 that includes a historical sketch of the church and a list of all priests who served them. St Joseph Catholic Church celebrated their 125th anniversary in 1992 with a volume that includes pictures of church members, a history of the church and of the church school and convent. From St John’s we have baptismal records from 5 Nov 1912 through 24 March 1935. Oak Harbor is represented by 4 volumes. St John Evangelical celebrated a century of church service in 1988. Their book is a well written history of the church through that time, and includes a list of all pastors and confirmands. Grace Luebke transcribed records of St Paul’s Lutheran and St John Lutheran in Oak Harbor, including baptisms, marriages, deaths, and minutes. The remainder of the collection is of Port Clinton churches. We have single volumes from Erie Shores Assembly of God, Resurrection Lutheran Church and Trinity United. Faith United Methodist has given us two volumes, celebrating their 150th and then 175th years of service. Peace Lutheran celebrated 100 years of service in 1995 with one volume listing pastors who have served and another featuring pictures of various church offices and activities followed by pictures of current members, their addresses, and phone numbers. We have 4 volumes from St. John Lutheran in Port Clinton including one volume of funeral records transcribed by Madge Warner for the Ottawa County genealogical society. They're listed not by date but alphabetically, and include name, date of birth, of death and burial; age at death; cemetery; parents, spouse, and siblings' names. St Thomas Episcopal is represented by 3 volumes, including a listing, by date, of church baptisms from 1896 through 1920. I have an excel sheet of these books, with call number, title, church name and address, and a summary of the contents. If you’d like a copy of that sheet, please email me: sdress@seolibraries.org
